9. 2.2 - Refer to the LMS model of the Open EdX

A significant difference between Moodle and Open edX is that Open edX was not founded as a Moodle Research Institute, then again it's rather as an LMS-based software project developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). This project is called Open edX. Until 2021, Open edX will again be transferred to the Center for Imagined Learning (CRIL), a non-profit organization founded by Harvard University and the private Institute of Technology MIT with the proceeds of the purchase this project again.




According to the latest statistics of Open edX, an online learning platform that allows programmers (IT), developers (Developers) and teachers (Professor/Teacher) to maintain a diverse set of settings, includes fully hosted learning websites open to public courses and 350 different versions run by institutions of all sizes. 


As we mentioned above, the founders and developers of Open edX include: Private Institute of Technology MIT, Harvard University, company 2U (parent company of edX) with 2U vision and edX cooperation. Together to bring affordable, high-quality education to more than 40 million learners worldwide. The Open EdX marketplace also has partners that provide different services to members in different continents, countries with different native languages that can run their own instances of Open edX LMS in >100 languages in the world. 


In 2022, Open edX statistics they have expanded the scale of registration of online courses, on the Open edX platform from 155,000 users up to 40 million users from 196 countries (the author found that the number This is also approximately Moodle) and they have gathered >6 million students officially registered for credit-supported or credit-eligible online courses to receive authentic degrees/certificates from reputable Universities and corporations in the world like Harvard, IBM etc. Open edX has successfully attracted talent “Outside the United States” by 3,500 online training/sharing/classroom programs across 30 fields with countless future career fields.
